Out of stockA beautiful strand of 48 natural Clay Spindle beads from Mali strung on raffia. These beads have a rough earthy feel with geometric designs. There are 22 large bicone beads that vary from 30 - 33 mm and 26 round beads about 19 to 22 mm. The beads are handmade and will vary in shape, patterns and colour. The string you receive is the one in the photo. My affection for these beads dates back to when I first heard that these 'Spindles' actually evolved into the beads they are today because of our avid collectioner's heart (all Beaders have one of those!) Originally these Spindles were actually made to spin cotton but then people started collecting them because they were so beautiful. They became rare .. so some enterprising people started making new ones but more as the beads they are today... They are so beautiful and evoke the country, Africa just by handling them and by the fact that they are made from Africa's earth.

A gorgeous Traditional Smock .... with a modern twist! Hand made with hand stiching with beautiful Ghanaian batik fabric in patchwork pattern. Funky Frog is selling this traditional Smock for a favourite Trader, Ibrahim. All money will go directly to him. He asks $200 US for this magnificent piece of art. "The African Fugu Batakari jacket or smock is perhaps the most distinctive traditional garment from West Africa. Although this type of smock is most popular in Northern Ghana, it has gained acceptance and significance throughout the nation. The Fugu was introduced in Ghana by the Moshies from Burkino Faso and by the Hausas from northern Nigeria, both of whom migrated into Northern Ghana. The name Fugu comes from the Moshie word for cloth. The Dagombas call the garment Bingba, and in the south they call it Batakari. These smocks represent a powerful heritage."

Out of stockA strand of approx. 66 Bauxite Beads strung on raffia 26" long. The beads are a real mix of sizes and shapes. The largest bead is approx. 45 mm around by 15 mm and smallest is about 14 mm x 6 mm. These beads were bought from Traders at Ghana's Bead Markets. These beads are made by the Beadmakers in Akyem Abompe in Ghana where they are handcrafted in a very labour intensive process starting from mining the bauxite from the nearby hills to drilling the holes. Bauxite is a type of aluminum ore. Bauxite Beads are a beautiful mix of Autumn browns ranging from quite a light almost orange brown to a deep rich brown. They give a necklace a natural look and feel. This strand is quite unusual as some of the beads are carved.
