A strand of 100 silver coin metal Mali squashed bicone beads strung on string which measures approx. 36". The beads are approx. 12-14 mm. Please note that these beads are made by hand out of recycled metal and will vary in shape and size within the strand. The string you will receive will be similar to the one you see in the photo but might have some variations. These beads were found by Hidir, Trader at the Koforidua Market in Ghana for Funky Frog. He says these silver beads are getting harder to find. Doing some research a prevalent message is that in recent years, these beads are becoming more difficult to find as the human rights situation in Mali has significantly deteriorated, as attacks against civilians by Islamist armed groups linked to Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS) and large-scale abusive counter terrorism operations by Malian armed forces and associated foreign fighters surged. The violence exacerbated an already dire humanitarian crisis, with 8.8 million people requiring assistance and over 575,000 forced from their homes, including 375,000 internally displaced people and 205,000 refugees in neighboring countries as of August 2023. This forces many of the traditional artisans to leave the villages in pursuit of new opportunities. It makes these beads quite precious. -

These colourful Vintage Vinyl Beads are strung on string and one strand is 32" long.The 'heishi' beads are about 7 mm. You will receive a strand similar to one of the strands in the photos. Each strand is quite a different mix. If you would like a photo of the strand you will receive don't hesitate to contact us. Hunting for Vinyl Beads during the 2018 Beads Hunt proved to be a challenge. These unique thin disc (heishi) beads which are made with vulcanite, a vulcanized hard rubber and traces of vinyl (some of the older vinyl beads are made from recycled vinyl records) are a very popular item at Funky Frog and several clients had asked me to look for them. The markets have been flooded by the new Vinyl Beads in all sorts of bright vivid colours and sizes. The downside of the new vinyl beads are they are rougher and not as smooth and silky as the older vintage vinyl beads. It is these older Vintage Vinyl Beads that are sought after and are becoming harder and more expensive to find. Also the downside to the vintage vinyl beads is some of them are friable and break very easily especially the black. Funky Frog brought back a mix of the two. You will see all the Vintage Vinyl Beads will be labeled Vintage. These beads are becoming quite valuable. The new Vinyl Beads are fun, vibrant and plentiful. Funky Frog has both. Vinyl Beads make great Spacer Beads or as the feature beads for your jewelry. These particular Vinyl Beads are Vintage. -

The beads are Purple with bright starburst yellow flowers with red at their centers. These beads are handmade and handpainted so they will vary in size, shape and pattern. Purple is a very complex colour. There are so many variations. It is said purple symbolizes magic, mystery, spirituality, the sub-conscious, creativity, dignity, royalty – and it does evoke all of these meanings more so than any other color. Further variations of purple can convey different meanings. For instance light purples are light-hearted, floral, and romantic. The dark shades are more intellectual and dignified. A bracelet sized strand of about 9 tubular opaque Lime Green Recycled Glass Beads which are strung on string. The beads are about 27x12 mm. The beads are all handcrafted so will vary in colour, size and shape. The strand you will received will be similar to the photo but may have variations. These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a wood burning earthen oven.
